About Coast & Compass

A Sense of Place

I've always seen the world as a photograph waiting to happen — the small detail inside a big view, and knowing instantly how it would crop.

Fifteen years ago I moved to the Central Coast of NSW, after years of inner-Sydney life around Newtown and Erskineville. It gave me room to breathe: ocean, bush and waterways on the doorstep. It's the place I come back to after every trip away, and it's where Coast & Compass is made.

For a long time the photographs stayed on a hard drive while a career in corporate leadership paid the bills. In 2026, after some personal reassessment, I stepped back from that and started properly pursuing the work — turning photographs into travel posters, then into patterns, finding a different kind of beauty each time.

Every design begins with an original photograph I've taken on location — never a stock image, and never generated from a blank prompt. AI tools help transform those photographs into finished artwork, but the place, the light and the creative decisions are always mine.

Terrigal, Avoca and Macmasters sit alongside places much further afield, because the compass matters as much as the coast.

Australian production is the priority. Wherever it's possible I choose Australian-made, and where it isn't, the work is still done here — everything that reaches you is printed and posted by Australian producers, never shipped in from overseas.

Coast & Compass is for people who'd rather keep something than replace it. Made to be lived with. Made to be kept.
